CBAM Copilot is Aekam AI's carbon evidence platform for the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. It ingests operational documents — electricity bills, fuel invoices, production logs, Material Test Reports and supplier declarations — extracts the relevant fields with AI, validates them against units, dates and quantities, calculates embedded emissions, and produces EU workbook outputs with a field-level audit trail back to every source document.
The calculation is not the difficult part. The difficulty is assembling complete, auditable installation-level data: electricity bills, fuel invoices, process logs and spreadsheets sit with different teams; supplier data often lacks installation-specific embedded emissions; units, dates, product routes and production quantities must reconcile before any calculation is valid; and every reported number must be traceable to source proof for verification.
A golden thread is an unbroken traceable link from a reported CBAM value back to the source document it came from, the calculation applied to it, any assumptions used, and the review history including any human corrections. Under the definitive CBAM regime, reported emissions data is subject to verification by accredited verifiers, so a value that cannot be traced to its evidence is difficult to defend.
Three groups share the same evidence layer: non-EU exporters and production installations preparing installation-level emissions data for their EU customers; EU importers who hold the legal declaration obligation and need supplier data at scale; and consultants, trade advisors and accredited verifiers who need a multi-client evidence workspace.
Where actual emissions are used rather than default values, the non-EU installation operator must provide verified emissions data. That moves the data burden upstream into factories and suppliers — which is why exporter-side evidence readiness, not just importer-side filing, determines whether actual values can be used at all.
